5 out of 5 stars HERBALIST BOOKS   December 4, 2009
Rosalinda Iacovitti (In New York)
Susan's books are excellent. She dares to go the extra step and doesn't get frightened by an inflexible pharmaceutical society. You can learn much from any of her books. Just start somewhere! Her books are keepers. You can always reference them for something.

5 out of 5 stars So Glad I bought this book!   November 21, 2009
S. Kreider (Port Deposit, Maryland, USA)
If you get hot flashes like I do you will begin to wonder how normal is this? Just vaccumming sends me into sweating and dripping down the middle of my back. This book will leave you feeling like you just had a visit from your great great grandmother who has been waiting to talk to you for many years. Great information and understanding of the woman's design.

5 out of 5 stars Wise and organized   June 22, 2009

Amazingly open and honest description of all phases of perimenopause and the different levels of "cure". I had borrowed this book from the library, but found I wanted to own a copy of my own to refer to when needed. I also bought a copy for my friend who is joining me on this next journey! I have found it quite helpful already, and am just beginning to need it! Organized by symptom which is a real time-saver!

2 out of 5 stars WARNING! REALIZE NATURAL MENOPAUSE IS DIFFERENT FROM SURGICAL MENOPAUSE EMOTIONALLY   February 4, 2009

I am 40 years old and went through 'surgical menopause' due to health related issues. Please be warned there is a great emotional difference between naturally occurring changes in life stages (menopause), and an abrupt surgical menopause. Before reading this book, one needs to have accepted their menopause EMOTIONALLY--not thrown into menopause due to a surgery.
The physical aspects that follow menopause are (as I now know from this book..)horrifying! I cried my eyes out when reading this book; about all the miserable atrophies, dryness, loss of elasticity, and loss of sexuality that I am going to encounter. Perhaps it is supportive if you are sixty, but its down right scary if you are forty!
Not that this is the author's fault- BUT DO NOT READ THIS BOOK UNLESS YOU HAVE ACCEPTED YOUR MAJOR CHANGE! IF YOU ARE EXPERIENCING A SURGICAL MENOPAUSE BEFORE YOUR NATURAL TIME-DONT WALK, RUN AWAY FROM THIS BOOK!
Reading it made me feel as good as dead. The author uses words such as "crone", "death", "old", "46 is old for woman"-all throughout every chapter of this book, IT MADE ME absolutely sick. I spent the whole night crying after the first few chapters-especially learning what is in store for me physically.
On a more positive note, this book was an excellent resource for herbal remedies-but I have taken an herbal pharmacology class-definitely not for anybody without an herbal background. All in all, when I look at the book, I shudder-My message is not that it is a bad book, but that if you have experienced menopause before your time, it will make you feel like crap! Scared me to death!

5 out of 5 stars A book every woman needs!   February 2, 2009
Kim M.
This is the number one book every woman should have on her bookshelf!

I have read it 3 times over in less than a week and still find the greatest nuggets of info.....my only regret is not having it sooner!

Every woman no matter her age will benefit from this book.
Kim
