Product Description
Is heart attack in your future? Don’t think you can hide behind your normal cholesterol!

If you’ve wondered whether you have hidden, silent coronary heart disease, then Track Your Plaque is the book that shows how to uncover it.

With the availability of the new generation of heart scans, coronary plaque and potential for heart attack are detectable—easily, quickly, and inexpensively. But Track Your Plaque shows you more than just measuring hidden heart disease. It also shows you how to control heart disease risk and sharply reduce the prospect of heart attack and major heart procedures, like angioplasty and bypass surgery, in your future by applying unique approaches to diet, exercise, nutritional supplements, and incorporates the space-age technology of lipoprotein testing to uncover even hidden, genetic, causes of heart attack. Track Your Plaque is the most comprehensive solution to heart disease available today.

5 out of 5 stars a potential life saving book   November 8, 2009

My husband has just been diagnosed with CAD (Coronary Artery Disease) and conventional treatments seem to be at best slow down the progress of plaque formation. This book gives patients hope and guidelines to tame the disease and reverse the growth of plaque, something "modern" doctors can only dream of.
Highly recommened to everybody, since there is surely someone in every family affected. It is practical, covers every aspect of CAD and gives clear and practical advice.

5 out of 5 stars A must for anyone concerned about coronary artery disease!   October 18, 2009

My family physician suggested that I go and have Calcium Score CT Scan. I do have a history of hypertension and a cholesterol problem. So I did and much to my surprise my Calcium Score put me at a medium risk for coronary artery disease. I was completely taken by surprise. Let me point out that I seldom eat meat and eat dairy and eggs sparingly. Furthermore, I have had an excercise program for many years. As this book points out it does not matter that you eat healthy and excercise, you could still be at risk for a heart attack. The author covers quite a lot of information which includes: what is currently known about coronary artery disease, as well as a step by step guide to preventive care so that one does not end up being a casualty. I like the philosophy that the patient needs to take responsibility for his/her health. I couldn't agree more. As I told my cardiologist, 'I appreciate and value your knowledge and experience, and know this, I take responsibility for my health'. I believe that change comes in three steps: awareness, acceptance, and then action. After the CT scan I became quite AWARE which brought up feelings of fear, despair, etc. It took a few days to get to the acceptance phase, much discussion with friends and spouse, and reading this book as well as other sources. By the time I finished reading this book, I was in the action phase. My attitude is good and the fear has been replaced with hope. Personally, I think that if the price of this book was twice or 3 times what it is, it would still be a worthwhile purchase.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best books on treating Heart Disease   May 10, 2009

I have ordered at least a dozen books on preventing, diagnosing, and correcting heart disease. 'Track Your Plaque' is my personal favorite of all of them and clearly one of the best and most up to date around.

A former follower of the Dean Ornish's Diet Plan for reversing heart disease, Dr. Davis (a cardiologist himself) builds from where Ornish left off and offers his own system for diagnosing and reversing heart disease. Instead of 'not a drop of any fat' like some others, Dr. Davis recommends 'low fat - good fat' instead. And even provides proof of how some fats in some foods actually can combat heart disease. Some of the dietary treatment modalities included in the book are: Oat Bran, Raw Almonds and Walnuts, Flax Seed, Psyllium Seed (fiber), fish oil, supplements such as CoQ10, l-carnitine, l-arginine, etc and how to use blood test results to determine which will work best with the causes of the heart disease which can vary with the individual.

Although it is not as exaustive on the details of diet as some others (such as Joel Fuhrman's 'Eat to Live' which is very good and recommended), Track Your Plaque does discuss at length dietary causes of heart disease and gives a very good overview of specific foods and supplement's as mentioned that help combat and reverse heart disease.

Track Your Plaque describes using a CT scan (commonly available at a low cash price for screening at heart hospitals) to diagnose the extent of your heart disease without being physically invasive. He also talks about the tests accuracy, how to interpret the results, and how to have some special blood lipid tests done to get to the root cause of the heart disease for each individual. He then proceeds to point to the dietary changes that can be implemented and directed toward reversing the heart disease for people in general and those causes which the tests indicate should be targeted.

Overall, I think 'Track Your Plaque' is a must read for those serious about combatting heart disease and avoiding, if possible, a downward spiral of declining health brought on sometimes by surgeons who understand the knife and using pills, but not bringing the body into balance naturally. If I had to choose only two books that would cover the gamit of treating heart disease naturally and offer some healthy differences of opinion, I would choose 'Track Your Plaque' and Joel Fuhrman's 'Eat to Live' (Dr. Sinatra's book would be third).

Very informative. Answered many questions. Glad I read it before I went to see my heart specialist.

5 out of 5 stars Great read - eye opening   November 29, 2008

I am a physician. I thought the book was a great read. Whether Heart Scanning is practical or not, I am not sure. However, the extended lipid analysis is important and will become more of a standard of care in the future. Whatever a heart scan shows, every America should eat healthy. A heart scan would be beneficial in scaring someone to get fit and eat healthy. The author's blog is one of my favorite site. Kudos to him.
