2 out of 5 stars Some good advice, but also some bad   July 9, 2010

This book helped me diagnose my candidiasis about 9 years ago so I'm grateful for that, but now that I'm much more of a critical thinker and more educated I know it has some bad information in it as well.

It promotes homeopathy throughout the book which I'm passionately against. Homeopathy is not supported by scientific evidence and isn't even plausible so it wouldn't even be good speculation. It also has minor mentions of reflexology and other dogmatic advice which would waste someones time when they could be trying a proven treatment.

So instead of weeding through the bad advice in this book, I would just recommend getting another book, such as my favorite: Health and Nutrition Secrets, by Russell Blaylock M.D. Dr. Blaylock doesn't just give you advice but also the reasons why and the evidence to support it.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Resource   October 30, 2009
apoem (Bosque Farms, NM USA)
This book is an excellent resource for families.

The book covers an array of problems from stomach ailments to acne to depression - it describes the problem very clearly in laymen terms and then it provides an array of natural cures. It might have a list of food that will help the problem (Such as yams for menopause) and it might have a list of herbs and vitamins. Most often it covers all three diet, herbs and vitamins.

This is the first thing I turn to when my family gets sick. Often times I save myself a visit to the dr's office just be using the natural cures suggested in this book.

Enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars Comprehensive guide to natural remedies   July 18, 2009

About a decade ago, I suffered from acute back pain and foot pain, and a friend recommended a homeopathic doctor. Since then, my back pain has diminished to the point where it no longer interferes with my daily activities. This book is a great resource on natural remedies for those who are tired of the traditional methods of treatment using prescription drugs or who would like a broader perspective on the available alternative treatments.

The book is divided into two main parts:
Part One details a list of conditions and provides description of the conditions, symptoms, root causes, testing techniques, & treatment.
Part Two details the essentials of natural medicine, which includes:
Diet and Nutrition
Fasting
Nutritional Supplements
Herbal Medicine
Homeopathy
Bach Flower Remedies
Aromatherapy
Traditional Chinese Medicine [Acupuncture & Acupressure]
Hyhrotherapy
Natural Hormones
Bodywork
Exercise and Stress Reduction
Part Three is the Apppendix

There is a detailed index at the back of the book.

Conclusion - great resource on natural cures which is comprehensive and informative.

This book is very comprehensive. The reader is given information regarding several health conditions and a wide range of alternative treatment options that they themselves can implement to improve their quality of life. Furthermore, there is supporting research for several of the treatments suggested and the possible risk factors. There is also detailed nutritional information and a look at the whole person in relation to achieving good health. In addition the format and layout is reader friendly. Its an excellent book.
